Les Brugueres Blanc: the Priorat Grenache Blanc that challenges everything you think you know about white wine

5 min read

Some wines teach you something the first time you try them. Les Brugueres Blanc from La Conreria d'Escaladei is one of those wines. A white from the Priorat that, once in the glass, demands your full attention.

La Conreria d'Escaladei: a Carthusian legacy

The story of La Conreria is inseparable from the Carthusian monastery of Scala Dei. It was the Carthusian monks who, in 1194, planted the first vines in this corner of inland Tarragona — recognising before anyone else what the llicorella, the dark, brittle slate that defines the Priorat's soil, could do with a grape. In honour of that legacy, three friends — a winemaker, a teacher and a priest — founded the winery in 1997 with a clear purpose: for every wine to reflect the history and winemaking culture of the region.

The estate: 3 hectares of terraced slate in Escaladei

The Les Brugueres estate, known as La Creueta, covers barely 3 hectares of terraced vineyards within the municipality of Escaladei itself. The vines were planted in 1980. Growing over slate soils, they produce Grenache Blanc grapes with a concentration that only comes from the combination of poor soils, altitude and careful work.

The winemaking: precision without artifice

The winemaking is precise and unadorned. A 75-hour pre-fermentative skin maceration, temperature-controlled fermentation between 17 and 18 degrees, and five months of ageing on fine lees in stainless steel. No oak. No artifice. Just fruit, mineral character and time.

Tasting notes

In the glass, Les Brugueres Blanc shows a pale yellow with green highlights that already hint at freshness. The nose opens with ripe white fruit — apricot, pear — alongside floral notes and a mineral depth reminiscent of damp stone. Given time, anise and a delicate herbal quality emerge. The palate is round and generous, with a lively acidity that holds the whole together and a long, citrus-tinged, lightly spiced finish.

90 points Robert Parker. 90 points Guía Peñín. Two scores that won't surprise anyone who tastes it.

At Carbònic

At Carbònic we serve it by the glass and by the bottle. It pairs naturally with fish and seafood, lighter starters and any plate where the poised acidity of a serious white wine can guide the meal. You'll find it on our wine list.

A Priorat white that makes no apologies for being complex. Exactly what we look for when we choose a reference for Carbònic.
